How many do I do need for a Group or Club Entry
The minimum number of riders for a group or entry is 8 – full details here.
This can be anything that is suitably recent, official, authentic and more than something that only your Mum would recognise. Examples are photo driving licence / travel pass / work ID / student ID.
So it can’t be a selfie pasted on to a business card! Also the name needs to match your registered entry.
The reason is that whilst we have a pretty cool insurance company, they do ask that we know who everyone is on the event.
Please don’t try to wing it at registration… No photo id = No go!
As this Sportive is restricted to 18 years old and over, if you are fortunate enough to look younger than your years, then we’ll need to check your ID to confirm your age too. Again please don’t try to wing it.
Bike storage is only available for those who are camping with us. You will need to store your bike at whichever accommodation you use. Its not us being awkward – the pavilion is just not big enough.
Yes, collect a bag tag at registration in the Sports Hall and leave your bag here (not at the start) before you set off on your ride. If camping with us bags and bike boxes will be collected from outside the Cricket Club Pavilion next to the Sports Hall. Bags will be waiting for collection at Whitby Leisure Centre.
No, start times are not allocated so you can choose when to start between 5am and 7am. Remember the first ferry is at 7am and good strong bike lights will be required if you anticipate being out beyond 8pm, weather dependent of course. Don’t forget the cut off at Tunstall at 17.00 hours.
We anticipate a fast time to be around eight hours. We hope everyone will be in within 18 hours!
It would be advisable for all the participants to have at the very least a rear light, those who expect to be out in the dark should come prepared with a front and rear light.
Sportive HQ has public liability insurance to cover such events. This however does not cover personal injury; if this is of concern we would recommend that you take out personal insurance to cover all eventualities.
This is a hard event, if you are really asking you may want to have a good think before entering!
The route will be fully signed along its entire length. It may however to wise to familiarise yourself with the general route prior to departure.
As we are providing back-up facilities we must insist that your supporters, friends and family do not bring any vehicles out on the route to follow as this will create congestion and will be a danger to cyclists and other road users. We are keen to encourage support at the start and finish.
There will be food provided at food stations, and we can cater for gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan requests as long as they are declared on registration. If however you have any particular or unusual dietary requirements it may be best to bring what you need or require with you. For more details see our food page.

Seascale – camping is at Seascale Cricket Club, next to the Sports Hall and is tent camping on the cricket green. Due to limited parking in this area any campervans or mobile homes over 5m must book onto a nearby campsite. Food is available from the Methodist Church on Friday night and Saturday morning (see handbook for more details).
Whitby – camping is at the Rugby Club and is tent camping beside the pitch. Limited number of VW T4/T5 sized campervans are also permitted. Larger motorhomes need to book onto local campsites.
