Long Route
Probably the flattest 100-mile route in the UK, you’d have to go a long way to find anything nearly as flat! Many people choose it for the first 100-mile ride and others for their fastest 100-mile ride. Whilst the route was redesigned in 2022 to encompass more left turns early on in the route, it still follows the Trent Bank from Swinefleet to Gainsborough. Whilst the route is mainly flat, there is a minor climb near Bawtry.
Whilst sharing the first 43 miles with the long route, the medium route makes for a great ride out in glorious countryside. Following the Trent Bank as far as Owston Ferry where the feed station is, we then double back through Haxey and along the ‘levels’ where the road undulates across what was originally fenland before winding its way back to Thorne.
This 34-mile route is achievable by anyone, there’s no time limit and fully signed so it’s easy to follow if you’ve never done a sportive before. The route itself takes in the Isle of Axholme with a feed stop halfway round at Owston Ferry. Set yourself a new goal and enjoy a great day out on the bike.
