King Alfred’s Way
King Alfred’s Way 2021

Monday 8th June 2021 – Friday 12th June 2021

218 Mile Gravel Bike Ride, split into 3 manageable sections.

Meet us at our central point where we load your bikes and luggage and take you to the first nights accomodation in Winchester, ready to ride fresh from Tuesday Morning.

Our meeting location is just 5 minutes from Junction 33 of the M62, ensuring that it is accessible from all directions.

Immerse yourself in 10,000 years of history by riding this 350km loop around historic Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Alfred the Great. The route starts and ends in Winchester where Alfred is buried, and connects iconic monuments including Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, Iron Age hill forts, Farnham Castle, and Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals.
On our holidays we use two vehicles on the road every day with first aid trained, experienced staff. Each days cycling is between 70 and 80 miles per day. There will be a lead vehicle on the road that will be setting up feed stops along the way, for this distance there will be 2 stops. The other vehicle will be the ‘follow’ vehicle that you will see regularly throughout the day, so there is no need for you to carry extra equipment and clothing with you, the follow vehicle is always accessible.

Monday
Meet at 1pm, with your luggage and bike and let us load up in our secure vehicle, so your bike is stored inside our bespoke vehicle, whilst we travel to Winchester for your first nights accommodation.

Tuesday
After breakfast we will load your luggage and have your bike ready for the first days cycling. Todays trip will be from Winchester to Draycot (near Swindon), 72 miles cycling.

Wednesday
Cycling from Draycot to Hook, 68 miles, some magnificent scenery along the way.

Thursday
Our final days cycling from Hook back to Winchester is 80 Miles that final push to finish this epic route. After 3 days of incredible riding we can go out for a celebratory meal followed by our final overnight stay before heading back to our start point on Friday morning.

All accommodation is in twin rooms so the price is based on you sharing a room, this will be allocated on a same gender shared room. If you would prefer to stay in a single room, do contact us directly for pricing for a single room supplement.
Accommodation is on a Bed and Breakfast basis and we provide the lunches and food for road side stops throughout the day but evening meals are down to yourself. Groups of 12 may have different preferences for evening meals.
Support

Our support team will be looking after you all day.
There will be a vehicle in front setting up feed stops and carrying your luggage between hotels and a following vehicle with your ‘day bags’ if you need to swap any kit over in the day.
